Product Safety Registration

Cormica offers a wide range of chemical and physical methods to meet the standard requirements of product safety registration for agrochemicals, biocides, industrial chemicals and for the requirements of REACH

Our team of multidisciplinary scientists have extensive experience of the identification, characterisation, assay / impurities, and physical properties testing requirement for these product-critical submissions

What is REACH

REACH is the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals (EC 1907/2006). REACH applies to the majority of chemical substances; those used in industrial processes and daily life, for example in cleaning products, paints as well as in articles such as clothes, furniture and electrical appliances. REACH places the burden of proof on companies.

Companies are required to identify and manage the risks present by substances they manufacture and market.

They must be able to demonstrate how the substance can be used safely, they must communicate the risk management measures to users, and they must register the information in a central database in the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).

This is covered by the European Union (EU) Regulation No. 1907/2006 and United Kingdom REACH etc. (Amendment etc.) (EU Exit) Regulations 2020. Concept Life Sciences offers the following testing for REACH:

  • Analysis of purity of active substances
  • Analysis of active ingredients and impurities in formulations
  • Identification and analysis of impurities in active substances and formulations · Description of substance – appearance, physical state colour and odour
  • Melting / freezing point
  • Boiling point
  • Relative density
  • Surface tension
  • Water solubility
  • Partition coefficient
  • Granulometry
  • Hydrolysis
  • Adsorption / desorption screening
  • Stability in organic solvents
  • Dissociation constant
  • Viscosity

Agrochemicals / Plant Protection Product Registration

The registration of plant protection products is governed by the European Union Regulation (EC) 1107/2009 and in United Kingdom The Pesticides and Fertilisers (Miscellaneous Amendments) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019. The same testing is required as for REACH, plus the following additional testing carried out at CLS:

  • Spectra (UV/visible, FTIR, NMR and MS)
  • Solubility ion organic solvents
  • pH
  • Acidity / Alkalinity
  • Bulk density
  • Storage stability and shelf life
  • Wettability
  • Persistent foaming
  • Suspensibility, Spontaneity of Dispersion and Dispersion stability
  • Particle size distribution
  • Emulsifiability, re-emulsifiability and emulsion stability
  • Flowability and pourability
  • Physical compatibility with other products

Biocide Registration

The registration of biocides is governed by the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR), Regulation (EU) 528/2012 and in United Kingdom the GB Biocidal Products Regulation (GB BPR). The same testing is required as for REACH and plant protection products.
